This particular treatment was most recently popularized by reality star Kim Kardashian. This treatment is generally performed by a medical doctor due to its invasive nature. The doctor draws a few vials of blood and then separates the plasma from the red blood cells using a centrifuge. Once that process is complete, the platelet-rich plasma is then put back into the skin using a dermal-needling device or roller.

Currently, there is minimal scientific evidence suggesting this treatment actually benefits the skin. The claim is that the platelet-rich plasma contains epidermal growth factor which instigates the wound healing process. This in turn may also increase collagen production, thus making it an anti-aging treatment.
